Stay Gentle 　（JN）

　見えないものを「かたち」にしたい。

私の創作は世界を翻訳する旅です。出会った景色をそのまま記憶するのではなく、光がもつ粒子のような「手触り」と、消えゆくものと残っていくものへの「切なさ」を織り交ぜ、一枚の光の画として描き出すことから始まりました。

　街と呼吸が合う時があります。

風が吹き、理想の光が訪れ、私が求める「気配」が現れるその瞬間を、その土地が本来の顔を見せてくれる時を、静かに待ちます。

　そして、まばゆい光だけではなく、隣り合わせにある闇が暗く濃厚だからこそ、その場所に差し込む僅かな光が温かいことに気づいた時、私の視線は、光が生まれてくる源である闇へと深く向けられるようになりました。この「暗闇の中の光」を繊細に表現するために、私はデジタル技術を用いて、「光の色」と「闇の色」をそれぞれ分離させて理想の色を追い求め、ひとつの「光の画」を創造していきます。

　そこに浮かび上がるのは、光と闇が寄り添い、豊かな色味を持つ重層的な世界です。それは、困難な時代の中で、世界がどうか穏やかであってほしいという、私の静かな祈りでもあります。暗闇の中にこそ現れる希望のような微かな光に触れる瞬間、そして、街をたおやかな「人の気配」が包み込む時、私は、光と闇の間にある幸せを、今を生きていることの意味を感じるのです。

注釈：日本語の「気配（Kehai）」とは、視覚でははっきりと捉えられないものの、周囲の空気や状況から何となく感じ取れる「存在の兆し」を表す言葉です。私たちは、微かな音や光の濃淡、風のゆらめきなどから、直感的にそれを察知します。  英語の「Atmosphere（空気感）」「Sign（予兆）」「Presence（存在感）」「Breath（息遣い）」など、複数の言葉が溶け合ったような抽象的な概念であり、本作品群においては、「姿は見えずとも、確かにそこに人が在る感覚」という意味を込めています。

I seek to give form to the invisible.

Instead of simply memorising the scenery before me, my journey began with weaving together the particle-like tactility of light and the sweet sorrow for things fading and remaining, to render them as an  image of light.

There are moments when I breathe in unison with the place.

I wait quietly for the wind to rise, for the ideal light to visit, and for the ‘Kehai’ I seek to appear—waiting for the very moment when the landscape reveals its true face.

It is not merely about the dazzling light. I realised that the subtle light feels warm precisely because the darkness beside it is so deep and dense.  Since then, my gaze has turned deeply toward the dark—the very wellspring from which light is born. In order to delicately express this ‘light within the dark ', I use digital technology to separate the ‘colours of light ' and the 'colours of darkness', pursuing the ideal nuances for each to create a single ‘Image of Light’.

What emerges is a multi-layered world of rich hues, where light and darkness nestle close to one another. It is also my silent prayer that, amidst these challenging times, the world might remain gentle. In the moment I touch that faint light—like a glimmer of hope—revealed only within the darkness, and when the faint lingering of people gently envelops the city, I feel a solace residing between the light and the dark, and the true meaning of being alive in this moment.

Note on ‘Kehai’: The Japanese word 'kehāi' refers to a ‘sign of presence’ that, while not clearly perceived by the eye, is vaguely sensed through the surrounding atmosphere. We intuitively detect it through faint sounds, subtle gradations of light, or the gentle wavering of the wind. It is an abstract concept that blends the nuances of several English terms, including ‘Atmosphere’, ‘Sign’, ‘Presence’, and ‘Breath’. In this body of work, it embodies the sensation that ‘even though they remain unseen, a human presence is undeniably there’.
